January meeting

We were delighted to welcome back Steve Manning, a friend and neighbour to Fenland.

He came to talk to us about “Saving your research”. This turned out to be a thought-provoking evening. I think many of us were expecting a more practical session on technological solutions to record keeping. In fact, Steve gave us a mixture of technology and reasons why to examine what you have, and what you are going to do with it. What will happen to all this stuff when we’re gone. It has to be wanted and meaningful to those left behind to avoid the skip.

He advised about methods of data capture and the warnings of out-dated technology and lost subscriptions.

I’m sure many of us left with thoughts of piles of papers, computer printouts, lists of dates, and boxes of ‘stuff’ with the aim of looking at it afresh.
